I'm Mitch Calloway, and I've been reviewing online casinos for Australian players since 2016. I read the terms before I read the marketing, and I won't recommend a casino I haven't deposited into and withdrawn from myself. Who I am
I came up through the industry the hard way. I studied a Bachelor of Communications (Journalism) at the Queensland University of Technology, then spent a few years dealing poker and live table games, which is where I first saw the mechanics of bonuses, house edge and player verification up close. I moved into writing about iGaming in 2016, and since 2021 I have been the editor and lead reviewer at Joe Fortune, where I personally test every casino we recommend.
My expertise
Bonuses. I've analysed well over 500 offers and can spot the real value in minutes — the difference between a clean x30 on deposit and a trap of x50 on bonus-plus-deposit with a $5 max bet and live games excluded. Licensing. I know what MGA, UKGC and Curaçao (now the new CGA regime under the LOK) actually mean for a player's protection, and for Australian-facing sites I always check the offshore licence and flag that the ACMA doesn't license casinos here. Payments. I've tested payouts across cards, e-wallets, bank transfer and crypto (BTC, LTC, ETH, USDT), and payout speed is one of my core scoring criteria. Game providers. I know the catalogues of 80-plus studios, from RealTime Gaming and Rival to Pragmatic Play and Evolution, and I understand RTP, volatility and hit frequency. Mobile. Every casino gets tested on a phone — layout, load speed, cashier and whether there's a real app.
How I test
I test every casino personally: a real sign-up, a real deposit, real play, and a real withdrawal. A full test runs five to seven days — long enough to clear verification, work through a bonus and actually get paid. I use my own money, with a typical test deposit of A$20–A$50, and I log every step: registration screenshots, support chats and exact payout timings. That record is what each review is built on.
